Most of the time they are gardeners, farmers, bakers, potters, basket makers Their performances have toured Britain and now they can be watched on DVD as they prepare and perform The Choice, an acclaimed play about abortion and Downs syndrome. Fair Play – the Art of Being Different, takes you behind the scenes as we meet the playwright Claire Luckham, her brother Ben with Downs syndrome who lives at Grange, his fellow community members who are the actors in the play, and the director. Most of the cast members have learning disabilities although there are no characters in the play with disabilities. Working together in rehearsals, the actors not only learn their lines but they learn about themselves and each other, and develop a sense of unity through their shared struggles with the play and with life. We see them not only facing up to being different but, in some cases, being proud to be different. Filmed by David Herman, who lives and works at Grange community alongside the group of actors, Fair Play – the Art of Being Different is available from Amazon.co.uk, price £8.99. | The title from the Fair Play DVD |
